The Chantilly area map

Chantilly is easiest to understand by its edges. Independence Boulevard (US-74) runs along the south side and carries most of the fast traffic toward Uptown and Matthews. Briar Creek and its greenway form the eastern edge, with the Chantilly Ecological Sanctuary sitting on the floodplain land along the creek. To the north, the blocks around Commonwealth Avenue lead into Plaza Midwood's commercial streets, and to the west the grid runs into Elizabeth and the hospital district around Novant Health Presbyterian.

Inside those edges the streets are short, residential and mostly tree-lined. There is almost no commercial frontage within the neighborhood itself, which is why the map shows shops, restaurants and parks around the perimeter rather than in the middle.

Central Avenue is the main east–west spine north of the neighborhood: Plaza Midwood's restaurants and bars to the west, and one of Charlotte's most varied international food corridors further east. Monroe Road and Independence Boulevard handle trips toward Cotswold, SouthPark and the southeast. Hawthorne Lane and Seventh Street connect west into Elizabeth and on to Uptown.

For walking and cycling, the Briar Creek greenway is the most useful line on the map. It links the sanctuary area south toward Cotswold and the wider greenway network that connects with Freedom Park and Little Sugar Creek.

Travel times change with the hour, especially on Independence Boulevard, so treat them as a planning guide rather than a promise.
