East Charlotte's food scene is the least corporate in the city. Central Avenue alone carries Vietnamese, Salvadoran, Ethiopian and Cantonese kitchens inside strip centers that look like nothing from the road. Plaza Midwood layers a bar and small-plates culture on top of it, and Elizabeth keeps the white-tablecloth end of the market close to the hospitals.
The practical result for a Chantilly household: almost everything worth eating is inside a ten-minute radius, and very little of it requires a reservation made a month out.
