Context
Working in Chantilly's pre-war housing stock
Technology is the one system in a historic renovation that cannot be added gracefully after the drywall closes. Plaster walls, balloon framing, brick exteriors and finished attics make retrofits invasive and expensive, so the cabling plan has to be settled during framing along with plumbing and electrical.
In practice that means deciding early where wired network drops belong, where access points can be mounted so coverage reaches the porch and the yard, how speakers will be concealed in rooms with plaster ceilings, where displays go relative to windows and fireplaces, and how a rack will be ventilated in a house that never anticipated one.
Done at the right moment, none of it is visible. Done later, it is a series of compromises the owner sees every day.

Step 1
Design with the builder
A cabling and coverage plan coordinated against framing and electrical, before insulation and drywall.
Step 2
Rough-in
Structured wiring, conduit for future runs, speaker backing, display blocking and rack location — the work that determines whether the house can be upgraded in ten years.
Step 3
Trim and calibration
Fixture install, network configuration, display calibration and control programming tuned to how the household actually uses the rooms.
Step 4
Support
Documented systems, remote monitoring where wanted, and a service relationship — the part of the trade most owners underestimate.
